An update at last. . .

Hello there!

It has been far too long since I have spent some quality time with my keyboard. I guess I should say my keyboard and some good music. Sarah gave me a lot of new music and I am currently enjoying some new melodies from Iron and Wine. Very smooth and peaceful 🙂 I should note that now my iPhone no longer has any space left on it ha. Well, back to the subject. I have traveled some 1300 miles from my former home in Prairie Village, KS to Saint Petersburg, FL. Though long, my trip was very smooth. I drove 15 hours the first day and stayed in a hotel somewhere outside of Atlanta, Kenenesaw if I remember correctly. Before we left Kansas we had planned on driving half way, which would have been 9 hours, but we didn’t realize that the hotel we booked and paid for was a lot farther than we thought. It’s funny, when you mentally prepare to drive a pre-determined distance it is so difficut to drive any farther. However, after a good night sleep we were off again only to land safely at my house in St. Pete roughly 9 hours later.

I was able to unpack everything over the next several days and was able to get all the furniture I needed for $150 dollars! Thank goodness for Craigslist. A bit about the house. . . Domini (my non-blood related older sister), Mike (my best-friend), and I found the most perfect place in Saint Petersburg. It is a three bedroom, two bathroom home located on a golf course in a beautiful way upper class neighborhood. When I say “way upper class” I’m not joking. The golf course is a private club, called the Vinoy,  and although our street is modest the neighborhood as a whole is affluent and appears to be home to many of Saint Pete’s upper crust. Mike and I long-boarded around our neighborhood tonight and there are so many beautiful homes and the views of the water are breathtaking. 100 feet from our home is the water with a great boat ramp and dock. We can walk out our back door and be fishing in minutes. Plus, we discovered that if we stand out by the dock at sunset when the boats come in, the fisherman will give us their extra live bait! BONUS! Especially when we are poor college kids and live bait shrimp are 5-9 dollars a dozen.I will try to post some pictures of our home and perhaps even a video in a day or two.

I’m starting work tomorrow at a Macaroni Grill in Tyrone Square. I’m excited to start working again but somehow Macaroni Grill won’t be the same for me. So much of what I loved about Macaroni Grill were the people I worked with. Plus, now I have some proving to do. I’m a hard worker though so I am believing that it won’t be long before I’m apart of another Mac family.

Yesterday Domini, Mitch, Mike and I went out to Safety Harbor to attend a bond fire hosted by a High School friend of Mikes. We had a great time and it was fun to meet some new people. After the bond fire though  we came home hungry and I opted to eat some of my Mom’s brown breakfast bread, a Miller family tradition. I tell this because as I went to cut into the bread my knife struck something hard, metallic like. . . my mom had left the mixing spoon in the bread by accident ha ha. I had to call her and give her a hard time. She said she had been calling people whom she had given bread too. I told her this was almost as bad as when she made tuna-noodle-casserole and forgot to add the tuna 🙂

I am thoroughly enjoying myself so far here in Florida. There are parts that I miss like my Kansas City friends, my familiarity with the area, my Mom and Pops, and my dog Snicker, and my damn dishwasher ha (Good lord I have never had to do so many dishes) but as is to be expected there are parts that I don’t miss. I sure am enjoying being able to set my dinner down on the coffee table without worrying if Snicker is going to eat it ha ha. Overall though, I am so excited to see how my life will have changed in a year’s time.

Well, I think that’s all I am going to write for now. I have work in the morning and it’s getting late. Goodnight for now.

Love, Nate

Getting settled in. . .

Posted in Uncategorized on January 6, 2010 by Nathan Miller

Well, over the last several days I have had quite the journey. I have officially uprooted myself, traveled 1200 plus miles, and landed in sunny Saint Petersburg, Florida. The trip went well– two days of long driving– but I made it safe and sound. Last evening I got everything unpacked and my room all set up. I’m happy, everything is looking great. I should be able to put some pictures up soon and perhaps even a video or two. That’s it for now; more is sure to come later.

Love,

Nate

Well, I made it! I’m loving every moment of my new life here as of now. Unfortunately I have yet to set up my computer so you will have to wait for a detailed account of my journeys until later. Love you all!
